Ten sentenced of online harassment directed at Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has ruled against ten people for perpetrating the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the partner of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The accused individuals faced accusations of circulating false claims regarding her gender identity and sexual orientation, in addition to making hurtful comments about the husband and wife's 24-year age gap.
The court delivered conditional custodial sentences of up to eight months to the defendants. The detailed judgment has not yet been published.
A persistent false narrative claiming that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has spread widely since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This recent ruling in France comes as the Macrons engaging in a legal action for defamation in the United States against political commentator Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared comparable unfounded claims about the Brigitte Macron's gender.
Their legal filing states that Owens brushed aside all credible evidence contradicting her allegations in favour of amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.
Owens has frequently reiterated these allegations on her digital program and social networks, and in March 2024 declared that she would bet her whole career on her belief that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron first met her current spouse when she worked as an educator at his lycée.
The pair married in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
