'People are intimidated' - why 'powerhouse' Arsenal have become the side to defeat.

There's little doubt why Arsenal are now many people's top picks to claim the Premier League this season.

Consider their outcomes against West Ham and Crystal Palace versus those same matches last season.

The Gunners have defeated all of them during this campaign, but surrendered 10 points across those games as they dropped off in the title race last season.

Defensive Dominance

Arsenal's defensive strength is a primary factor why they are looking well positioned to ultimately achieve their title goal.

They rank top for unbreached games (6), shots let in (3), shots faced (72), quality opportunities against (19) and anticipated concessions (5.3).

The central defensive pairing of Gabriel and William Saliba is arguably the best in the league, with Arsenal recording a clean sheet in six of their first nine games.

Set-Piece Expertise

Their effectiveness from free kicks is highly documented, but competing clubs still don't know how to contain the Gunners from these opportunities.

They have registered 11 times from set-pieces in the league, two more than any other side, with 69% of their goals coming from these situations.

"Arsenal can do a bit of everything now. The whole team has a intimidation presence. People are just afraid of them and it is excellent to see."

Championship Pedigree

What is even more notable about Arsenal's beginning to the campaign is they have also played Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United at opposition grounds and Manchester City at home - and are still leading by four at the top.

While they keep winning, their traditional rivals are struggling. This marks the first time at this point of the season since 1992 that none of Manchester City and United, Liverpool or Chelsea are in the Premier League top four.

The pressure was on manager Mikel Arteta at the beginning, having allocated around £250m on eight summer acquisitions in search of that coveted first title since 2004.

But the investment has so far proven successful in style, with his side among the highest scorers in the league and having the tightest defense, despite multiple injuries.

  • Shutouts in three consecutive Premier League games
  • Over six hours without letting in a goal
  • Only a handful of concessions in 12 games across every tournament

Former players and analysts have described Arteta's men as a "juggernaut, looking hard to stop" with the whole club now performing with confidence and determination.
